Eligibility for DSNAP includesanyone household who has either A. suffered damage or destruction of the home, B. loss of income due to termination or a delay of income because of disaster related problems (example: a business had to remain closed for an extended period of time and no pay was provided to the employee), or C. a household had to use expenses due to the storm and don’t expect to be reimbursed in any way (this includes home or business repairs, temporary sheltering, evacuation, etc)
If your household receives SNAP already, no action is needed. If you already receive the maximum amount, no changes will occur since you receive the maximum amount. If you do not receive the maximum amount and live in one of the counties mentioned above, you will automatically be provided the remaining amount to your account. (example: a single household member’s maximum amount of eligible SNAP when all conditions are met is $292. If you currently receive $200, you will receive the remaining $92)
The best and fastest way to apply for DSNAP is to pre-register online. (Pre-register will done in two phases by county throughout November). After you pre-register, you will receive a follow-up telephone interview to complete the process. In-person locations will be made available starting in December, but pre-registration online is the easiest way to obtain DSNAP if you meet eligibility. If you cannot make the online deadline, be on the lookout for in-person events between December 2 and 13th. (We will share details as they come)
How much DSNAP you receive depends on your household size. (see chart in FAQ, Page 3)
You will need a proof of identity, address, income, and value of damages/loss of income in the application process.
SCDSS says DSNAP will arrive around three business days after the telephone interview. We are still awaiting word when current SNAP recipients will automatically receive their max allotment.
