The Myrtle Beach Branch of the NAACP #5568 hosted its Freedom Fund Gala on February 1st at Pine Lakes Country Club, marking the evening as a sold-out success. The gala featured keynote speaker Victoria Rowell and was expertly emceed by Mark Kruea. During the gala, the Myrtle Beach Branch of the NAACP honored three outstanding members of the Grand Strand community. Dr. Preston L. McKever-Floyd was awarded the 2025 Myrtle Beach Branch of the NAACP Community Catalyst Award, recognizing his exceptional efforts in igniting change and fostering social justice through grassroots initiatives. Mrs. Anne Futrell received the 2025 Myrtle Beach Branch of the NAACP Legacy Builder Award, celebrating her lifelong dedication to advancing civil rights and social justice. Mr. Wayne Gray was honored with the President’s Award for his unwavering commitment to civil rights and community service, serving as a beacon for progress and advocacy across the Grand Strand area.
The gala also spotlighted the 2025 charitable organization of the year, Julie’s Kids, which on February 17th received a $5,000 donation. Julie’s Kids has been a cornerstone in the community, providing essential resources and support to underprivileged children in Horry County. Attendees were encouraged to support this vital organization, which relies on community generosity to continue its impactful work.

Rowell is best known for her iconic role as Drucilla Winters on The Young and the Restless, which earned her three Daytime Emmy Award nominations. She also starred in Diagnosis: Murder as Dr. Amanda Bentley, appearing in both series simultaneously from 1993 to 2000. Her film credits include The Distinguished Gentleman, Dumb and Dumber, and Barb Wire.
